About the role

The Underwriting Coordinator (UWC) role sits within American Express's commercial and consumer underwriting process, acting as the key connection between customers and underwriting decisions. The team gathers the financial information and documentation needed to support underwriting while delivering a consultative customer experience in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment. This position guides customers through underwriting requirements and next steps, communicates decisions and available options, and ensures quality, regulatory, and compliance standards are embedded throughout the process.

What you will do

  • Guide customers through the underwriting process by providing clear, consultative support and explaining requirements and next steps.
  • Collect, review, and accurately document financial information and supporting documentation required for underwriting.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions and outcomes professionally, including delivering difficult or sensitive messages when necessary.
  • Provide customers with appropriate options and guidance based on the underwriting outcome.
  • Manage multiple systems, customer interactions, and workstreams simultaneously while maintaining n
