About the role
The Core Engineering builds and operates the platforms, applications, data solutions, models, and analytics that power critical processes for Goldman Sachs' Core divisions such as Risk, Controllers, Compliance, Corporate Treasury and Human Capital Management, with 2,000+ engineers across six business units. It is a centralized engineering structure leveraging cloud, AI and machine learning to promote consistent governance and scalable solutions. This VP Software Engineer role focuses on modernizing and consolidating software stacks, increasing automation, and solving data quality, warehousing and analytics problems for regulatory and control-driven applications.
What you will do
- Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that provides exposure to all areas of Finance
- Build strong relationships with business partners
- Understand business needs, facilitating and developing process workflow, data requirements, and specifications required to support implementation
- Develop technical specifications, high level/detailed design, testing strategies, and implementation plans from business requirements
- Define and govern scalable, secure, and cost-optimized architecture
- Leverage AI tools, i.e Devin, Claude etc to improve development efficiency and innovation
- Ensure strong cloud governance including security, compliance, and cost control
- Manage end-to-end systems development cycle from requirements analysis, coding, testing, UAT and maintenance
- Exploring new and emerging technologies as needed by the project.
- Drive program execution, manage risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations
- Collaborate with business leaders to align technology with strategic goals
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical discipline
- 10+ years of relevant experience in software development, including a clear understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design, core programming concepts and experiences with continuous delivery and deployment, preferably 2+ years of experience with AWS services.
- Deep understanding of cloud architecture, distributed systems, and system design
- Strong problem solver, organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment with delivery focus as part of a global team
- Exposure to AI/ML tools and modern engineering practices preferred
- Excellent communicator who is comfortable engaging stakeholders, both verbally and written
- Preferably experienced in managing small to mid-size teams
- Strong programming experience in at least one compiled language (e.g. Java, C++, python)
- Full Stack experience with industry standard frameworks and tools (e.g. React, SpringBoot, DropWizard, Maven, Web/RESTful service development)
- Knowledge of relational and columnar SQL databases, including database design
