About the role
Barclays' engineering function builds and manages scalable, secure infrastructure and digital solutions for the bank's products and services. The team works across testing strategy, automation frameworks and quality engineering in an Agile delivery environment, with exposure to Cards and Payments domain systems. This Test Engineer role designs and executes manual and automated test cases, builds UI and API/microservices automation using BDD, Selenium, Karate, Playwright and Cypress, and drives defect root-cause analysis with cross-functional teams.
What you will do
- Development and implementation of comprehensive test plans and strategies to validate software functionality and ensure compliance with established quality standards.
- Creation and execution automated test scripts, leveraging testing frameworks and tools to facilitate early detection of defects and quality issues.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams to analyse requirements, participate in design discussions, and contribute to the development of acceptance criteria, ensuring a thorough understanding of the software being tested.
- Root cause analysis for identified defects, working closely with developers to provide detailed information and support defect resolution.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Experience in both Manual and Automation Testing.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Design and execute manual and automated test cases.
- Experience in both UI and API functionality and automation testing.
- Hands-on experience in API and Microservices Testing.
- Hands-on test automation skills with experience in BDD with Cucumber, Selenium with Java, WebDriver, Karate, Playwright, Cypress.
Preferred qualifications
- Ability to identify positive, negative, edge-case, and comprehensive test coverage scenarios.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proactive and self-driven mindset.
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
- Prior Barclays, Cards, or Payments domain preferred experience.
