About the role
IBM Infrastructure & Technology designs and operates high-resiliency mainframes, hybrid cloud platforms, networking, automation, and site reliability systems. The team focuses on performance, security, and scalability for clients and industries. This role is a Technical Content Developer who independently owns end-to-end documentation for assigned products, uses AI tools for drafting and review, and works with PMs, engineers, designers, and SMEs.
What you will do
- Plan, write, and maintain user guides, API docs, UI text, CLI references, architecture diagrams, release notes
- Own the doc plan (scope, priorities, timelines) and keep stakeholders updated
- Use approved AI tools for drafting and review, and validate output against code, builds, and SMEs
- Partner with PMs, engineers, designers, and SMEs as the product’s documentation point of contact
- Apply IBM Design Thinking for clear, accessible content
- Work in Agile/Scrum cycles and use GitHub-based, single-sourced workflows
- Review peers’ content, act as quality gatekeeper, and mentor junior writers
- Find content gaps and use data to reduce support load
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor’s in a related field plus 7+ years of technical writing, including independent senior-level work
- DITA/XML, Markdown, or HTML, with tools like Oxygen, Git-hub based publishing system
- Experience with AI writing tools across the doc lifecycle
- Quick grasp of complex software, cloud, and APIs
- Git workflows (branching, PRs, docs-as-code)
- Proven end-to-end ownership of a doc set
- Strong communication on global, cross-functional teams
- Agile experience with JIRA or Confluence
- Technical Writing and Editing Skills: Experience working with technical writing and editing, information architecture, and visual design to create clear and compelling content.
- UI Writing and Content Development: Exposure to UI writing and content development using various skills, including video production, instructional design, digital learning, AI technology, and social media.
- Information Architecture: Understanding of how to organize and amplify information into clear and compelling content, making it easily accessible to clients throughout their digital journey.
- Exposure to Design Thinking Principles: Familiarity with applying design thinking principles to present technical content in a clear and compelling manner, enabling clients to digitally self-serve and succeed with offerings.
- Visual Design and Content Creation: Experience working with visual design and content creation tools to develop engaging and effective content that meets client needs. Content strategy, information architecture, and UX writing Video Production Skills: Exposure to video production techniques to create engaging and effective content that enhances the client experience. Instructional Design Knowledge: Familiarity with instructional design principles to develop digital learning content that meets client needs.
