About the role
Arm's Bengaluru Silicon Characterization team validates and characterizes next-generation Arm SoCs and helps customers bring products to market. The team focuses on DDR/LPDDR memory subsystems, silicon debug, and electrical/performance margin analysis across PVTF conditions. This role defines and executes post-silicon DDR characterization plans, debugs complex memory issues, and develops automation to improve silicon power, performance, stability, and reliability.
What you will do
- Define and execute DDR/LPDDR post-silicon characterization plans covering performance, power, functionality, electrical margins, and reliability.
- Identify, reproduce, debug, and drive root-cause analysis of complex silicon and memory subsystem issues.
- Perform eye margining, timing analysis, voltage/frequency shmoo characterization, and electrical measurements using MSOs and other laboratory equipment.
- Analyze DDR/LPDDR controller, PHY, and system-level behavior to identify performance bottlenecks and operating limitations.
- Develop reusable Python/C++ automation for characterization, instrumentation, data collection, and reporting.
- Collaborate with Arm architecture, design, PHY, firmware, verification, and platform teams to resolve silicon issues and improve characterization methodologies.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and communicate characterization findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's degree in electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of strong hands-on experience in post-silicon DDR/LPDDR characterization, validation, silicon debug, and root-cause analysis of complex memory subsystem issues.
- Good understanding of DDR4/DDR5 and/or LPDDR4/4X/LPDDR5/5X architectures, memory controllers, PHY operation, training, calibration, and timing requirements.
- Experience identifying, reproducing, and debugging complex silicon bugs, including memory instability, training failures, timing issues, and data corruption.
- Hands-on experience using Mixed Signal Oscilloscopes (MSOs), high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory debug equipment.
- Experience with DDR/LPDDR eye margining, Vref characterization, voltage/frequency shmoo testing, and timing margin analysis.
- Ability to characterize silicon power, performance, reliability, and operating limits across PVTF conditions.
- Strong programming and automation skills in Python, C/C++, Arm assembly, or related scripting languages.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate complex failures, interpret measurement data, and communicate technical findings.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with DDR4/DDR5/DDR6, LPDDR4/4X, LPDDR5/5X, or related memory technologies.
- Knowledge of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), Package-on-Package (PoP), on-package memory, or advanced memory packaging.
- Understanding signal integrity, power integrity, jitter, noise, DQ/DQS timing, and high-speed interface behavior.
- Experience characterizing memory bandwidth, latency, read/write performance, power consumption, and stability.
- Experience with DDR controller/PHY debugging, ECC errors, memory stress testing, and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with Arm-based SoCs, CPU memory hierarchies, interconnects, and system-level memory behavior.
- Experience developing automated characterization frameworks, performing data analysis, and correlating silicon results with design or manufacturing test data.
Benefits and support
- hybrid working arrangements
