About the role

The role sits within Mahindra & Mahindra's automotive safety systems area and focuses on restraint system design and integration. It involves developing proposals, packaging and feasibility assessments, airbag and pedestrian protection mapping, CAD design in CATIA V5, BoM and drawing release, DFMEA, and supplier validation. The engineer collaborates cross-functionally and with suppliers to resolve integration and production issues while meeting safety and homologation requirements.

What you will do

  • Developing detailed proposals based on conceptual design to enhance vehicle safety features.
  • Conducting comprehensive feasibility studies and packaging assessments of restraint system components to ensure optimal integration within vehicle architecture.
  • Mapping airbag impact zones such as CAB (Cabin Air Bag), SAB (Side Air Bag), and KAB (Knee Air Bag) to enhance occupant protection strategies.
  • Creating precise pedestrian protection mapping zones on the vehicle using CAD tools to meet regulatory and safety standards.
  • Preparing Bill of Materials (BoM), generating part numbers, and orchestrating the creation and release of drawings for homologation and production purposes.
  • Carrying out design and drafting activities using advanced Catia V5 R21 software to develop robust restraint system components.
  • Managing interactions and interface sign-offs between multiple vehicle systems through detailed interface management reports and resolution of integration issues.
  • Collaborating closely with suppliers for the development and validation of restraint systems, ensuring alignment with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Leading and facilitating DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and Design Reviews to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
  • Monitoring and following up on supplier deliverables including Design Verification Plans (DVPs) and ensuring timely resolution of technical and design concerns.
  • Investigating and resolving production challenges arising during line build and prototype phases, with a focus on enhancing quality and reliability.
  • Pursuing initiatives aimed at weight and cost reduction without compromising safety or performance, thereby contributing to overall vehicle efficiency and competitiveness.
  • Coordinating the release of design documents through established gateway processes and preparing comprehensive clearance and lessons learnt documentation to support continuous improvement.
