About the role
Dell Technologies' Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) builds the hardware and software that connect infrastructure, accelerate computational workloads, protect data continuity, and deliver enterprise platforms, applications, and diagnostics. The Software Engineering team designs and develops next-generation software for platforms, peripherals, applications, and diagnostics. This Principal DevOps/Software Engineer role architects, builds, and evolves cloud automation, orchestration, and platform capabilities across a VMware-based stack (Aria Automation, Aria Operations, VCF, ESXi, vCenter), driving modernization toward VCF Operations and AI-enabled orchestration in partnership with global Scrum teams.
What you will do
- Design, implement, and evolve cloud automation and orchestration workflows for VMware‑based platforms, including Aria Automation/Operations and emerging VCF Operations
- Architect and maintain integrations with ServiceNow, reservation systems, deployment services, and asset management platforms supporting global engineering teams
- Develop, enhance, and maintain automation pipelines and services supporting virtual and physical asset provisioning
- Lead modernization initiatives as Aria is modernized, transitioning orchestration capabilities into new VCF‑based platforms and intelligent automation ecosystems
- Create automation frameworks, APIs, and services enabling self‑service provisioning, developer tooling, and global platform operations
- Collaborate closely within Agile/SCRUM teams to design high‑quality automation, observability, and platform capabilities aligned with product engineering needs
- Drive architectural discussions, document solutions, and mentor engineering peers in DevOps engineering, platform automation, and VMware‑centered cloud technologies
- Champion secure-by-design engineering practices, reliable CI/CD methodologies, and scalable operational patterns across the stack
Skills used in this role

- Expert-level proficiency with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), vCenter, ESXi, and enterprise‑scale virtualization management
- Extensive hands-on experience with VMware Aria Automation (vRA/vRealize), Aria Operations, and orchestration tooling, including lifecycle management, blueprints, policies, and extensibility
- Demonstrated experience architecting and developing complex automation pipelines, including API-driven workflows, infrastructure-as-code, and multi‑platform integrations
- Strong programming or scripting expertise (Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or equivalent) for automation, platform integration, and orchestration logic
- Experience integrating DevOps automation with ServiceNow, including CMDB synchronization, workflow automation, and custom orchestration triggers
- Deep understanding of cloud automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and enterprise DevOps practices
- Strong knowledge of platform observability, operational analytics, and distributed system diagnostics
- Ability to lead architectural initiatives, produce clear technical documentation, and mentor cross-functional engineering teams
- Experience operating within Agile/SCRUM teams, influencing strategy across multiple software and infrastructure groups
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with global engineering, operations, and platform teams
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with ServiceNow development, including scripting, custom integrations, API development, and platform configuration
- Exposure to IPAM solutions or network services automation (e.g., Infoblox or equivalent)
- Strong familiarity with Agile/SCRUM methodologies and enterprise SDLC practices
- Experience with GitOps and container‑oriented tooling such as Kubernetes, Helm, Kustomize, or related platforms
- Exposure to Agentic AI / GenAI as applied to workflow automation, intelligent orchestration, or advanced developer tooling
- Experience developing automation for hybrid cloud or multi‑cloud environments
- Understanding of infrastructure security, RBAC models, and enterprise compliance frameworks
