About the role
The Software (CE-SW) group develops and improves the software ecosystem around Arm's next generation architectures and systems, working with processors and hardware technology not yet available to the public. The team is looking for software engineers with practical experience programming the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), working with software and hardware teams across multiple geographies. This role involves OpenBMC firmware development, BMC firmware bring-up and platform enablement for Arm-based server platforms, and contributing to the upstream OpenBMC community.
What you will do
- Your day-to-day role will involve develop, enhance, and maintain the OpenBMC firmware stack for Arm-based server platforms, ensuring robust and reliable system management capabilities.
- BMC firmware bring-up and platform enablement activities for new Arm-based server boards, including hardware integration, driver configuration, debugging, and validation.
- Develop and port BMC functionalities across multiple Arm-based server platforms, promoting software reuse, scalability, and consistency across platforms.
- Working closely with colleagues who develop SoC firmware to ensure that the BMC operates correctly within the complete system.
- Contribute to the upstream OpenBMC community to ensure that common server manageability features and Arm-specific platform requirements are well supported, maintained, and aligned with industry standards.

What the employer is looking for
- 4+ years of strong proficiency in C/C++ programming and Linux shell scripting for embedded firmware development, debugging, and automation.
- Hands-on experience with U-Boot, Linux kernel development, and device driver integration for hardware interfaces such as GPIO, I2C, I3C, SPI, PCIe, and Ethernet.
- Good understanding of OpenBMC architecture, system management services, D-Bus communication, and systemd service management, with experience in developing, integrating, and debugging OpenBMC components.
- Good Linux debugging skills.
- Familiarity with Git.
- Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and spoken English.
Preferred qualifications
- Knowledge of DMTF specifications and protocols, including PLDM, MCTP, and SPDM, with an understanding of their application in server management and platform security.
- Familiarity with OCP specifications and standards related to server manageability, including DC-SCM and other relevant platform management requirements.
- Experience contributing to upstream open-source projects, particularly OpenBMC, including patch submission, code reviews, and collaboration with the open-source community.
- Hands-on experience with BMC SoCs from vendors such as ASPEED or Nuvoton, including platform bring-up, peripheral integration, and firmware development.
- Ability to read and interpret hardware schematics, understand board-level interfaces, and collaborate with hardware teams to debug platform integration issues.
