About the role
Microsoft's Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which power Microsoft's cloud business, and the CO+I Engineering team delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. Its portfolio includes workflows for low-cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications. This full stack engineering role focuses on writing high-quality reusable code, building automation for long-range execution planning and workflow improvements, and resolving complex system integration challenges in an Agile environment.
What you will do
- Write high quality, maintainable, reusable code following SOLID principles
- Collaborate with and demonstrate features developed to stakeholders in an Agile environment
- Resolve complex system integration challenges working with other members of the team and external teams
- Share learnings and code assets developed with the CO+I engineering team
- Leverage subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items
- Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate
- Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale

What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, along with 4+ years of software engineering experience and demonstrated expertise in developing, maintaining, and delivering production software using one or more programming languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
- Experience in building and operating production CI/CD or release pipelines for complex distributed systems.
- Experience troubleshooting build, test, and release failures across multiple layers of the stack.
- Proven ability to improve engineering systems through automation, observability, and process simplification.
Preferred qualifications
- Proficiency in one or more languages such as C#, Python, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Experience in designing and developing cloud-based applications, APIs, distributed services, or enterprise platforms.
- Understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and system-design fundamentals.
- Practical knowledge of generative AI concepts, including LLMs, prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG, and AI agents.
- Good problem-solving, debugging, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Good to have experience with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, or similar technologies.
- Experience with Azure AI Search, AKS, App Service, Functions, Cosmos DB, Microsoft Fabric, or Azure Monitor.
- Familiarity with containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and managed-identity security patterns.
- Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, caching, and performance optimization.
