About the role
Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team builds the data platform for the age of AI, spanning products such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Power BI. Within Microsoft Fabric, the Platform team operates the unified foundation for shared infrastructure, governance, security, and a unified data model, while Microsoft IQ adds a shared semantic layer for contextual intelligence. This role will design and deliver AI-powered capabilities using LLMs, build RAG solutions with Azure Cosmos DB and semantic search, and apply agentic development practices.
What you will do
- Design and deliver AI-powered capabilities using large language models (LLMs), with a focus on effective context management, reliability, and measurable customer value.
- Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions using technologies such as Azure Cosmos DB and semantic search to provide relevant, grounded responses.
- Apply AI-assisted and agentic development practices and tools to improve engineering productivity, quality, and delivery.

Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- Experience working on semantic search systems
