About the role
The Cloud Delivery team within Microsoft Defender helps services and product capabilities reach cloud environments quickly and reliably, partnering with service engineering and operations teams to improve deployment pipelines, automate readiness checks, and make releases easier to validate, diagnose, and operate. The team's work advances engineering efficiency across Defender by reducing repetitive operational work and developing reusable automation. This role involves building deployment automation and infrastructure tooling for Microsoft Defender service deployments to Azure, collaborating directly with service engineers, and supporting solutions in production.
What you will do
- Build and maintain deployment automation, Azure infrastructure tooling, and pipeline checks that make service deployments repeatable, reliable, and easier to operate.
- Own engineering features through design, implementation, automated testing, rollout, and production support.
- Partner with Defender service teams to understand deployment dependencies, improve existing workflows, and integrate automation with clear ownership boundaries.
- Write maintainable and secure code and participate in design and code reviews, including validation, error handling, and safe rollback or recovery.
- Use logs, telemetry, and incident findings to diagnose deployment failures and improve reliability, observability, and release quality.
- Contribute to engineering efficiency across Defender by reducing repetitive deployment and operational work and developing reusable solutions for shared service needs.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
- Experience implementing, testing, and debugging defined software features using maintainable code and sound engineering practices.
- Experience collaborating with engineering partners through design, integration, release, and production support.
- Experience owning component or subsystem design and delivery, including managing technical dependencies and integration with other teams.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
