About the role
Barclays is a global financial services organization, and this role sits within its technology function to design, develop, and improve software that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities. The team builds scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions using Java Spring Boot microservices, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, and GitLab pipelines. Based in Pune, the engineer will contribute to software delivery, code quality, secure coding, and unit testing practices.
What you will do
- To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Maintain and create Java Spring boot micro services, write performance oriented efficient code.
- Will be required to write and maintain GitLab pipelines, you will be your devops engineer.
- To handle docker images creation and publishing for each micro service, so Kubernetes knowledge is must.
- Responsible to produce and consume messages to/from Kafka.
- To write JUnit and Cucumber for each feature you will be delivering along with the team.
- Will be required to write and manage Gradle scripts to build and publish artifacts.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with reading and writing onto MongoDB from Microservices.
- OpenApi specification knowledge as that is used exchange API specs with consumers.
- Redhat openshift knowledge as that is a private cloud used for hosting services.
- Knowledge about AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, Gitlab.
