About the role
Barclays is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and improve software that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues. The role involves microservices, AWS, Java/Spring Boot, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and event-driven architecture, with cross-functional collaboration and secure, high-quality delivery. This is a Pune-based role with Assistant Vice President expectations, including team leadership and coaching.
What you will do
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Skill area Microservices strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, event-driven architecture (Kafka/SQS).
- Skill Area AWS Mandatory — proven AWS experience across compute, storage, networking, and managed services.
- Experience deploying and managing workloads on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
- Advanced knowledge of AI-powered development tools and their integration into SDLC.
- Java (primary), Python (advantageous).
- Solid understanding of application platforms, service mesh, observability, and SRE practices.
- Experience managing teams of 15–20 engineers; coaching and developing talent.
- Strong Agile/SAFe delivery experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in Cards, Payments, or Financial Services platforms.
- Familiarity with Barclays technology standards and risk/control frameworks.
- AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer Associate).
