About the role
The Access Essentials organization drives Okta's core mission by designing and delivering robust authentication and authorization solutions across all Okta-protected resources, engineering scalable cloud services and advanced client software that enable seamless device logins and strong authentication standards across enterprise applications. As part of Okta R&D Engineering, the group works on identity security, authentication, and authorization platforms including Okta Platform and Auth0 Platform. This Architect role will shape next-generation identity and security architectures, define long-term product strategy, elevate engineering standards, and build and maintain the platform for scale.
What you will do
- As an Architect in this group, you will play a pivotal role in shaping next-generation identity and security architectures. You will solve complex, high-impact technical challenges, define long-term product strategy, and elevate our engineering standards while navigating a fast-moving cybersecurity landscape.
- This role is to build, design solutions, and maintain our platform for scale.
- The ideal candidate is someone who has experience building software systems to manage and deploy reliable and performant infrastructure and product code at scale on a cloud infrastructure.

What the employer is looking for
- Strong hands-on experience designing & developing enterprise software using Java with Springboot
- Deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, server-side technologies and distributed system concepts(caching, asynchronous processing, multi-threading)
- Strong experience working with relational databases, ideally MySQL, PostgreSQL or GraphDB
- Skilled in debugging and troubleshooting complex java codebase
- Passionate about writing clean, maintainable and scalable code with a deep focus on security
- Solid experience with cloud infrastructure platforms particularly AWS and GCP
- Proven experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to work with cross-functional(Product/Design/Quality) stakeholders across multiple geo-locations
- Prior experience as an Architect/Technical Lead leading large scale architectural initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 18+ years of software development experience, with at least 12+ years of experience designing and building enterprise grade software using Java at scale
Preferred qualifications
- Strong understanding of IAM protocols(FIDO, WebAuthn, SSO, SAML, OAuth, SCIM, OpenID Connect) and identity management best practices
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and certifications like CISSP or Security+.
- Some experience with javascript frameworks and basic UI development
- Prior experience building teams from ground-up
