About the role

This role sits in Nokia's Product Validation & Test (PV&T) R&D organization, serving as PV&T's direct presence and working arm at manufacturing sites, focused on Test Station Development (TSD) for optical test stations. The position covers TSD for coherent pluggable and/or TROSA station families and involves driving R&D-developed hardware, software, fixture, and procedural changes into manufacturing operations. The engineer works on the factory floor to set up, debug, and continuously improve optical test stations, integrating them into the factory test flow with manufacturing and Contract Manufacturer teams.

What you will do

  • Design, bring up, debug, and improve optical test stations for performance, reliability, and production readiness in PV&T manufacturing.
  • Work on-site with manufacturing and Contract Manufacturer (CM) teams to integrate stations into the factory test flow, including fixtures, instruments, automation, and measurement procedures.
  • Analyze station data and provide feedback for station design, test protocols, and Test Station Development (TSD)/R&D.
  • Manage the transition of R&D changes to factory reality, including software/firmware/fixture updates, procedure changes, and confirmation of line capability.
  • Develop and maintain test protocols to ensure accurate and repeatable results, proactively addressing compliance, safety, and measurement-integrity issues.
  • Represent PV&T at the manufacturing site, mentoring others and ensuring visibility and resolution of station-related issues.

What the employer is looking for

  • Bachelor’s or master’s in engineering, Physics, or a related field (equivalent industry experience considered).
  • Typically, 3+ years developing test stations or automated test equipment (ATE) in optical and/or electrical test.
  • Working knowledge of optical measurement principles and how test hardware/software produces results.
  • Comfort working in a manufacturing environment and willingness to travel regularly to Nokia/CM sites in Thailand and Malaysia.
  • Ability to work effectively across hardware, software, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues.
  • Coherent pluggable / PIC test-station or ATE development, OR TROSA / photonic-assembly test-station or ATE development.
  • Electrical design, simulation, or schematic/layout support for test hardware; fixture, thermal, or PCB work, including RF and low-frequency analog/digital signals.
  • Source control and software-driven test infrastructure (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket), with Continuous Integration (CI) for hardware test being a plus.
  • Production data analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), or yield/debug of station-limited failures.
  • Mentoring junior engineers or leading a station bring-up across multiple teams.

Benefits and support

  • Compensation and benefits are detailed in the job posting
