About the role

The Data Platform team builds and operates systems that centralize all of Coinbase's internal and third-party data, so teams across the company can access, process, and transform it for analytics, machine learning, and end-user experiences. The work spans foundational processing and storage, scalable pipelines, and internal frameworks and tooling. As a senior engineer, this role works across the full stack of those systems, from storage and orchestration to integration SDKs and self-service, security, observability, and lineage tooling.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and operate foundational data services, including storage (cloud warehouse, data lake), orchestration (Airflow), batch processing (Spark, SQL), and streaming (Kafka).
  • Build and maintain data integration and processing SDKs used by internal services and product teams.
  • Design self-service tools so users can manage and troubleshoot their own data pipelines.
  • Build services for data security, observability, quality, cataloging, and lineage.
  • Turn requests from analysts, ML, and security teams into reusable, scalable patterns.

Skills used in this role

What the employer is looking for

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including senior-level ownership.
  • Strong Python, Go, or Java backend development skills.
  • Hands-on experience with data systems or data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with design patterns such as scale-out, caching, key/value, and columnar storage.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Airflow for operational data analysis.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
