About the role
The Application Modernization Platform (AMP) team transforms legacy applications into microservices-based architectures on MongoDB, with a focus on data migration. The Data Migration team builds tooling for schema modeling, initial data loads, and continuous synchronization from relational databases to MongoDB. This Senior Software Engineer will contribute to backend services for a data migration suite built with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Debezium, and React, collaborating with product management and other engineers.
What you will do
- Contribute high-quality, well-tested code to the modernization and framework team and its surrounding services
- Collaborate effectively with Product Management, other engineers, and designers to build and deliver on the product roadmap
- Participate actively in code reviews to enforce best practices and patterns
- Help troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in our distributed systems
- Give and solicit feedback on technical design documents and pull requests
- Perform tasks related to process such as CI/CD, quality, testing, etc
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- 6+ years of commercial software development experience with at least one JVM language such as Java, preferably using the Spring ecosystem
- Solid experience in software architecture and development
- Extensive experience with streaming data platforms such as Apache Kafka and Change Data Capture (CDC) tools like Debezium
- Extensive experience with relational and document data modeling and hands-on experience with at least one SQL database (Postgres, MySQL, etc) and at least one document database (e.g. MongoDB)
- Exposure to client-side technologies such as JavaScript and React is a plus
- Good understanding of algorithms, data structures and their time and space complexity
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and contribute to the overall technical direction and roadmap of the team
- Curiosity, a positive attitude, and a drive to continue learning
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
