About the role
The Future of Scalable Software Engineering (FoSSE) team in Microsoft's CoreAI division builds AI agents that transform some of the world's largest codebases, including Windows and Azure. The team combines AI agents with static analysis, testing, and formal verification to make large-scale software transformation practical and trustworthy, working on migration at scale, language modernization (C/C++ and C# to Rust), and specification-driven development. This role designs and ships agentic tools and infrastructure, builds context/analysis/validation layers and evaluation harnesses, and works with engineering teams across Microsoft to land changes at production quality.
What you will do
- Design, build, and ship agentic tools and infrastructure for one or more of our problem areas (such as migration at scale, language modernization, or specification-driven development).
- Build the tool layers agents depend on (context, analysis, and validation) and the evaluation harnesses that tell us whether they work.
- Integrate static analysis, testing, and verification into agent loops so every change arrives with evidence.
- Work directly with engineering teams across Microsoft, such as Windows and Azure, to land changes at production quality.
- Instrument and measure quality, including acceptance rate and correctness, and iterate from user feedback.
- Contribute to design reviews and mentor other engineers.
