About the role
Arm's Central Engineering - Software team validates complex Linux server and SoC platforms across processor, memory, I/O, networking, storage, power and thermal technologies. The role focuses on automated system-level testing and debugging of hardware, firmware and software interactions for platform bring-up, performance and long-duration stability. As a Senior System QA Engineer, you will build test automation and log-analysis tooling in C/C++, Python and shell, investigate system-level failures, and work with partner engineering teams to turn failures into actionable findings.
What you will do
- Develop and maintain functional, performance, stress and stability tests for Linux server and SoC platforms.
- Create test automation, log-analysis tools and regression coverage using C/C++, Python and shell scripting.
- Validate and debug interactions across firmware, Linux kernel and device drivers, system management, networking, storage and hardware bring-up.
- Investigate failures found during system-level workloads and long-duration testing; gather evidence, identify likely root causes and communicate findings clearly to partner engineering teams.
- Exercise platform reliability, availability and serviceability features, telemetry, power and thermal behaviour, and reset and boot flows.
- Contribute to validation of memory, high-speed I/O, PCIe, NVMe, Ethernet, RDMA and accelerator-related workloads where relevant to the platform.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Practical experience programming in C or C++ and using Python and shell scripting to develop test automation, analyse logs and support regression testing.
- Ability to validate and debug Linux-based server or SoC platforms across firmware, kernel, device drivers, system management and hardware bring-up; equivalent practical experience is welcome.
- Experience designing and running system-level functional, performance, stress or long-duration stability tests, with effective failure detection and root-cause analysis.
- Understanding of system architecture and behaviour across areas such as CPU and memory, cache coherency, DMA, NUMA, IOMMU/SMMU, PCIe, networking, storage, power or thermal management.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with BMC-based server management, secure boot, firmware authentication, boot-stage sequencing, watchdogs, reset flows, inter-processor communication or mailbox mechanisms.
- Knowledge of RAS validation across memory, interconnect, PCIe or accelerator subsystems, including use of telemetry such as performance counters, sensors and activity monitors.
- Experience with PCIe or NVMe validation, including raw block-device testing, storage performance testing or long-duration storage stress testing.
- Knowledge of high-speed Ethernet, RDMA, RoCEv2, MPI/CCL-style communication stacks, collective operations, or scale-up and scale-out communication architectures.
- Familiarity with AI/ML or accelerator validation, including PyTorch workloads, model execution, numerical-result comparison, benchmarking, workload automation or concurrent compute, memory, networking and I/O testing.
Benefits and support
- Compensation and benefits are detailed in the job posting
