About the role

The Compute Lab Team provides infrastructure and services that make computing simple, scalable, accessible, and affordable, enabling developers to build the next generation of the Akamai Cloud. As a Senior Software Engineer, the role collaborates with development and site reliability teams to build and manage mission-critical lab infrastructure services and environments for the Akamai Cloud platform. The engineer will develop deployment stacks for new test datacenters, design monitoring and observability solutions, and improve deployment and configuration frameworks.

What you will do

  • Developing the deployment stack responsible for building new test datacenters on the Lab Platform.
  • Designing monitoring solutions with new and existing observability tooling to ensure the health of our Lab Services.
  • Identifying bottlenecks with deployment and configuration frameworks, proposing solutions that improve performance and reliability.
  • Collaborating with senior engineers, architects, and experts to develop solutions enhancing speed and assurance in shipping products effectively.
  • Working on a highly collaborative global team that values feedback and open communication

Skills used in this role

What the employer is looking for

  • Have 5 to 8 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in work experience.
  • Be experienced with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation/Terraform/CrossPlane, configuration management systems such as Ansible, SaltStack, or Puppet, secrets management HashiCorp Vault.
  • Possess experience in container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, Nomad and dev-environment tooling (e.g. Kind, Docker Compose, Tilt).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Core Linux concepts, networking and skills in using the command line where appropriate
  • Be able to build & configuring Jenkins (GitHub), use Prometheus and Grafana to monitor, visualize, and generate metrics for system alerting.
  • Have demonstrated background using Python and RESTful API frameworks, including Flask and Django
  • Be able to use AI tooling for troubleshooting, comfortable working with relational databases such as MySQL or Postgres.
