About the role

Chargebee's Platform Product & Engineering teams ensure the technical platform and infrastructure meets the expectations of businesses that rely on Chargebee to run their most important revenue operations — processing billions of dollars in transactions with enterprise-class service levels. The Platform Product team is investing significant resources into modernizing the platform: a microservice architecture supporting loosely-coupled capabilities, standardized abstract cloud fabric, enterprise data management (including data science and machine learning), observability and analytics, and developer productivity components. As a Senior Product Manager, you will drive planning and prioritization for a feature area within a platform domain, define and track key metrics, and work closely with engineers to define feature functionality and execute against the roadmap.

What you will do

  • Drive planning and prioritization for your feature area within a platform domain, define and track key metrics, and work closely with engineers to define feature functionality and execute against the roadmap.
  • You'll focus on one or more of the following domains: APIs (endpoints & contracts, workflows, orchestration, frameworks and infrastructure); core platform services (including IAM, queue and job management, auditing, search, notifications, etc.) and service frameworks; transactional data management, enterprise data, DS/ML, and analytical systems; cloud fabric (containers, compute, storage, etc.); path-to-production (build, quality, release gates, automated testing and validation, deployment); observability, telemetry, proactive platform health management and incident processes; and platform initiatives (security, privacy/data protection; technical standards and governance and SLAs/SLOs).
  • Engage with internal partner teams (and external customers, where relevant) to gather product requirements and feedback through discussions, presentations, and preview programs, and translate that input into clear, detailed requirements.
  • Own the product lifecycle for your assigned features and services end to end — from discovery through requirements, build, launch, and iteration — shipping consistently against an established roadmap.
  • As you build fluency in your domain, increasingly help shape near-term roadmap decisions for your feature area in partnership with Staff and Principal PMs, making sure your recommendations align with the broader platform strategy they've set.
  • Manage the product lifecycle for your feature area, working with cross-functional partners (technical and non-technical) to solve concrete problems faced by Chargebee, our developers, merchants, and our merchants' end users.
  • Communicate progress, trade-offs, and value delivered clearly to your immediate stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
  • Conduct technical product discovery at the feature level: understand customer needs (internal and external) and technical constraints well enough to write sound requirements and make day-to-day prioritization calls.
  • Create detailed product requirements and acceptance criteria (within Agile Kanban or Scrum processes); manage your portion of the roadmap; prioritize within your assigned feature area.
  • Working with an analytics partner, track the input and output metrics (technical and business) relevant to your feature area and report on progress.
  • Working with a program management partner, follow operational processes and support staged, incremental roll-out plans.
  • Help uphold SLAs and SLOs relevant to your feature area.
  • Operate with growing autonomy within a matrix environment; escalate and help resolve blockers, and build strong working relationships across engineering, program management, and operations.

What the employer is looking for

  • Domain-appropriate knowledge: e.g., APIs (REST, GraphQL, etc.); streaming, OLTP and OLAP data systems; service frameworks; CI/CD, etc. (You are not expected to have full domain depth on day one; you should be a fast learner.)
  • Foundational systems thinking: ability to understand how the parts of a technical system fit together at the feature/service level, with growing ability to reason at a broader system level.
  • Background in platform product management with 5-8+ years of practical experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to listen and understand what drives people.
  • Experience working in a remote, distributed, global (cross-time-zone) company in a rapidly changing business environment, or a strong willingness and ability to adapt to one.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and in gray spaces, with support from more senior PMs.
  • Solid critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability collaborating with cross-functional teams outside your reporting line.
  • Higher education in a technical field (CS, EE, Information Systems) or equivalent experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with ecommerce, SaaS, or related software applications running on the internet; exposure to complex/distributed systems and cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, etc.) is a plus.
  • Past experience as a software developer or SDET, or equivalent technical exposure, is a plus.

Benefits and support

  • At Chargebee, we believe that feeling supported is the foundation for doing great work.
  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your personal, financial, and professional growth and ensure you thrive in every aspect of your life.
  • Our commitment to supporting our employees is universal, while our benefits are thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of each region.
  • Health & Wellness: Robust coverage and access to programs to support your physical and mental well-being.
  • Financial Security: Initiatives to help you build long-term financial stability.
  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible options and resources to help you thrive both professionally and personally.
  • Chargebee is an equal opportunity employer.
