About the role
Teradata's Cloud Platform organization builds and operates next-generation cloud platform and infrastructure services, including distributed services for provisioning, lifecycle management, orchestration, and automation. The role leads multiple engineering teams and owns the technical strategy, architecture, and operational excellence for scalable, reliable, and secure multi-cloud platform capabilities. It partners with Product, Cloud Operations, SRE, Security, and Architecture teams to deliver reusable platform foundations and modernize engineering processes.
What you will do
- Lead multiple engineering teams responsible for building and operating Teradata's next-generation cloud platform and infrastructure services.
- Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for scalable, reliable, and secure cloud platform capabilities.
- Lead the architecture, development, and operation of distributed cloud services supporting provisioning, resource lifecycle management, orchestration, configuration, automation, and platform operations.
- Drive engineering excellence across the organization, including architecture, software quality, reliability, scalability, security, observability, and operational readiness.
- Build a strong culture of ownership where engineering teams are accountable for the complete lifecycle of their services—from design and development through production operations.
- Partner closely with Product, Cloud Operations, SRE, Security, Architecture, and Customer-facing organizations to translate business and customer requirements into scalable platform capabilities.
- Establish and drive execution across multiple teams, balancing near-term delivery commitments with long-term platform investments and technical debt reduction.
- Develop common platform frameworks and reusable capabilities that enable engineering teams to build and operate cloud services efficiently.
- Lead initiatives spanning multiple cloud providers and regions, with a focus on automation, resilience, cost efficiency, and operational consistency.
- Drive modernization of engineering processes through automation, AI-assisted development, intelligent operations, and self-service capabilities.
- Establish metrics and operating mechanisms for engineering productivity, service reliability, delivery predictability, quality, and customer impact.
- Represent the cloud platform organization in senior technical and product discussions and influence engineering strategy across the company.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, including significant experience leading large-scale cloud or distributed systems organizations.
- 5+ years of engineering management experience, with demonstrated experience leading multiple teams and senior technical leaders.
- Proven experience building and operating production cloud platforms, distributed systems, infrastructure services, or SaaS platforms at scale.
- Strong technical background in cloud architecture, distributed systems, APIs, microservices, Kubernetes, containers, networking, security, and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience leading engineering organizations through architecture, development, production deployment, and operational ownership of complex distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of multi-tenant cloud architectures, resource provisioning, lifecycle management, orchestration, scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance.
- Experience working across AWS, Azure, GCP, or comparable cloud environments.
- Strong software engineering background with hands-on experience in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Go, or Python.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at both strategic and technical levels, from organizational planning to architecture and critical technical decisions.
- Experience managing managers, senior engineers, architects, and technical leads across multiple engineering teams.
- Experience building high-performing engineering organizations with clear ownership, accountability, and technical leadership.
- Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to connect cloud infrastructure, control planes, data planes, applications, security, observability, and operations end-to-end.
- Experience establishing platform engineering practices that enable teams to move faster while maintaining reliability and security.
- Strong understanding of production operations, incident management, root cause analysis, service-level objectives, capacity management, and operational excellence.
- Experience driving engineering transformation through automation, self-service, developer tooling, and AI-enabled engineering practices.
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex architectures, eliminate duplicated capabilities, and establish reusable platform foundations.
- Strong business and product judgment with the ability to prioritize investments across customer value, engineering velocity, reliability, cost, and long-term platform strategy.
- Excellent communication and organizational leadership skills, with the ability to influence executives, product leaders, architects, and engineering teams.
- A passion for building platforms that enable other engineering teams to deliver reliable cloud products at scale.
