About the role
DigitalOcean is a cloud platform company whose teams build the simplest scalable cloud, and this team's mission is to simplify the customer and developer experience so builders can focus on building and operating their applications. The team works on customer and platform engineering product offerings, including back-end gRPC APIs and the infrastructure behind observability solutions (metrics, logging, alerting) using Go/Java and distributed systems. This role is a technical engineering manager position leading a mixed-skill engineering team, setting vision and priority, partnering with product on roadmaps, and owning delivery, on-call escalation, and career development.
What you will do
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4+ years in a senior leadership or management role.
- Proven track record of delivering complex cloud-scale distributed systems, particularly in customer experience.
- Lead a team of back-end software engineers developing gRPC APIs and operating infrastructure for our observability (metrics, logging, alerting) solutions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills within a global organizational structure.
- Develop efficient team methods to adroitly delivery value to our customers.
- Collaborate across the organization and consistently interface with UI, UX, customer success, marketing, and engineering teams.
- Develop Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and utilize these Key Results to measure and report on the success of the team.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define roadmaps to build the next generation of products for our developer community.
- Review and give input on architectural system designs.
- Pair with leads on delivery of features, and resolutions of defects.
- Career coaching including performance assessment, and career development.
- Collaborate directly with customers to learn more about their jobs to be done and how DigitalOcean can better serve them.
- Escalation path for the product on-call rotation, and drive improvements post incidents.
