What you will do
- Process Planning & Weld Engineering: Formulate Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, WPS/PQR standards, and torch/parameter sequences across manual and robotic joining lines (MIG/TIG/Spot/Laser).
- Robotic Automation & Line Setup: Program and commission robotic welding cells (ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa), integrate automated seam tracking, design ergonomic layouts, and optimize cycle times using MOST.
- Tooling, Jigs & Fixture Development: Conceptualize, procure, and prove out welding jigs, locators, Poka-Yoke clamping mechanisms, gauges, and Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) with vendors.
- Metallurgical Validation & Quality Control: Perform mechanical testing (tensile, bend, macro/micro, hardness) and NDT inspections to guarantee weld penetration, structural integrity, and IATF 16949 / ISO 3834 compliance.
- NPD, APQP & Industrialization: Lead cross-functional trials for New Product Development (NPD), execute ECN updates, drive APQP/PPAP sign-offs, and prove line capability (Cpk/Ppk) for mass production readiness.
- Operational Excellence & Cost Optimization: Drive VA/VE projects, scrap reduction, setup time optimization (SMED), OEE improvements, and long-term Strategic Business Plan (SBP) budget/capacity projections.
