About the role

This role sits within JPMorganChase's Global Customer Platform, a technology organization supporting the firm's customer-facing financial services platforms. The team focuses on large-scale engineering delivery, platform modernization, and technology transformation across divisions. The Senior Director of Software Engineering leads multiple technical areas and departments, drives the adoption of technical methods cross-functionally, and interfaces with senior leaders and executives to deliver firmwide technology objectives.

What you will do

  • Leads multiple technology and process implementations across departments to achieve firmwide technology objectives
  • Directly manages multiple areas with strategic transactional focus
  • Provides leadership and high-level direction to teams while frequently overseeing employee populations across multiple platforms, divisions, and lines of business

What the employer is looking for

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition, 5+ year of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise and more broadly across the organization
  • Hands on expertise in large-scale engineering delivery, platform modernization, or technology transformation, including leadership of senior engineers/leads.
  • Experience developing or leading large or cross-functional teams of technologists
  • Demonstrated prior experience influencing across highly matrixed, complex organizations and delivering value at scale
  • Experience leading complex projects supporting system design, testing, and operational stability
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
  • Extensive practical cloud native experience
  • Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field

Preferred qualifications

  • Deep mainframe modernization experience (batch/online workloads, scheduling chains, DB2/VSAM concepts, integration/messaging) and proven patterns to retire mainframe dependencies safely.
  • Experience building self-service adoption enablement to reduce friction for consumer teams.
  • Experience implementing automated parity validation (dual-run strategies, output comparisons, reconciliation, drift detection) and evidence-based shutdown readiness.
  • Experience with governance models for large transformations (architecture authority, risk forums, release/change management cadence, KPI-driven execution).
  • Partner management experience for tooling and delivery assurance.
  • Experience working at code level
