About the role
Nokia's NCOM Infrastructure Management team builds and evolves NCOM Evo, a cloud-native operations layer for running and evolving telecom software at scale. The platform uses Kubernetes controllers, configuration-as-data, and GitOps-style automation to manage infrastructure, clusters, and network functions across operators worldwide. This R&D Engineer role focuses on GitOps strategy, infrastructure lifecycle automation, Kubernetes/OpenShift platforms, and integrating AI-driven tooling into CI/CD workflows.
What you will do
- Design and implement enterprise-grade GitOps strategies, including declarative state models, multi-cluster reconciliation loops, and automated promotion patterns.
- Architect and automate Infra lifecycle management frameworks, covering secure base image governance, dynamic build pipelines, admission control, runtime orchestration, and ephemeral environment provisioning.
- Develop robust rollback and progressive delivery strategies (e.g., Canary, Blue/Green deployments) using GitOps operators.
- Develop and evolve infrastructure-oriented packages and platform in line with NCOM Evo release and package guidelines.
- Build and troubleshoot Kubernetes-based applications, leveraging expertise in Openshift, Docker, and service mesh layers like Istio. Optimize Kubernetes ecosystems by developing custom controllers, operators, and CRDs, and managing complex service mesh layers declaratively.
- Lead the design and operation of distributed systems and microservices at scale, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Integrate AI-driven tools into CI/CD pipelines to automate workflows, including code generation, manifest validation, vulnerability patching, and pull request reviews.
- Manage infrastructure lifecycle automation for Openshift Container Platform (OCP), including installation, upgrades, and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RH ACM).
- Ensure secure and scalable cloud-native architectures, with hands-on troubleshooting and administration of Openshift environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence technical decisions and drive innovation in cloud-native distributed systems.
