About the role
Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team builds the data platform for the age of AI, spanning products such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Power BI. Within Microsoft Fabric, the Data Integration team helps organizations connect, move, and shape data across their entire data estate, and the Data Gravity UX Design team in Data Cloud Studio creates connected data experiences across Fabric. This Product Designer II role delivers end-to-end design for data transformation and related Fabric experiences, from user research and prototyping through design systems, AI-enabled exploration, and delivery in partnership with Product Management and Engineering.
What you will do
- Deliver end-to-end design of a defined set of data transformation and related Microsoft Fabric experiences, from understanding user needs through prototyping, execution, and iteration.
- Synthesize user insights, product data, business needs, and technical constraints to identify explicit and unspoken needs and translate them into clear user experience plans.
- Create and iterate user flows, wireframes, prototypes, detailed specifications, and user scenarios that support secure, accessible, and system-coherent experiences.
- Balance incremental improvements to mature product areas with future-facing exploration, including AI-enabled experiences for data preparation, transformation, and connectivity.
- Apply and contribute to design systems, patterns, interaction models, and visual design, ensuring local decisions strengthen the broader end-to-end Microsoft Fabric experience.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management and Engineering to evaluate tradeoffs, communicate design rationale, perform implementation reviews and quality assurance, and carry designs through delivery.
- Clearly present work and context to peers, managers, and stakeholders; invite feedback, influence collaborators, and contribute to an inclusive studio culture of learning and shared success.

What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred qualifications
- Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems). 2+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.
- A strong human-centered design foundation and a portfolio demonstrating thoughtful problem framing, iteration, and high-quality product design execution.
- Excellent interaction design and prototyping skills, creating end-to-end journeys, component behavior, design-system alignment, and pixel-level refinement.
- An AI-forward mindset, including active use of AI in the design workflow and enthusiasm for designing responsible, useful AI-powered experiences.
- Comfort partnering with engineers and working through technical complexity; familiarity with data, software, development tools, or code concepts is helpful.
- Systems thinking and an ability to understand how decisions within one workflow affect the wider product and platform experience.
- Clear communication, constructive collaboration, adaptability, curiosity, and a strong point of view held with openness to evidence and feedback.
- Experience with, or interest in, content design, information architecture, data products, analytics, developer tools, or enterprise software is a plus.
