About the role
Dell Technologies' Customer Engineering team supports customers running complex, mission-critical enterprise environments across hardware, software, and full-system architecture. The team focuses on advanced root-cause analysis, performance optimization, configuration tuning, and long-term stability for storage, Linux/BSD, networking, and observability systems. This Principal Systems Development Engineer role diagnoses hardware/software issues, performs kernel-level debugging, drives automation with AI and agentic tools, and mentors junior engineers.
What you will do
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware/software issues using advanced tools and methodologies.
- Conduct detailed RCA and provide actionable insights to internal and external stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams to drive collaborative problem-solving.
- Design and implement intelligent automation solutions, leveraging AI and emerging agentic technologies to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the organization.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Experience: 8+ years in software/hardware engineering (or equivalent) with deep expertise in one or more of the following: Object storage, NAS (Network Attached Storage), Linux/BSD operating systems, Networking and protocol stacks (SMB, NFS, etc.),Filesystems, Analytics, observability, and data science
- Work Model: Onsite, 5 days a week.
- Schedule: Weekend work on a rotational basis (comp days provided), occasional early/late shifts, and overtime as needed.
Preferred qualifications
- Proficiency in Java, C, Python, and scripting
- Proven experience in developing automation frameworks and applying AI/agentic tools to drive operational efficiency and scalability
