About the role
Teradata's Autonomous Knowledge Platform unifies data, knowledge and business context so enterprises can run AI across on-premises, cloud, or hybrid deployments. The database and platform engineering organization, with teams in Hyderabad and globally, builds and operates the core database platform for massive, mission-critical workloads. This Principal Architect role is a senior individual-contributor position owning architectural vision, database internals, query optimization, workload management, and platform reliability at enterprise scale.
What you will do
- Architect at enterprise scale – Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of Teradata core database architectures supporting massive, mission-critical workloads
- Own performance and reliability – Drive query performance tuning, workload management, and system reliability, ensuring high availability and operational excellence across global deployments
- Set technical strategy – Act as the principal database subject matter expert, guiding architectural decisions and shaping long-term platform evolution
- Lead through influence – Partner with engineering, analytics, and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions
- Define what excellence looks like – Consistently deliver high-impact architectural outcomes, raise the engineering bar, and enable innovation across teams
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- 10+ years of experience in database engineering, database architecture, or enterprise data platforms, with a track record of architecting large-scale systems
- Deep expertise in database internals, SQL optimization, and workload management
- Advanced experience with query optimizer behavior and performance tuning in large-scale, distributed environments
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and executive communication skills
- Experience defining and implementing best practices for data governance, data integrity, and database security, including compliance with Indian and global standards
- Proven ability to mentor senior engineers and influence technical leaders, fostering a culture of architectural excellence and continuous improvement
- A proactive mindset for identifying performance and architectural risks and driving optimization initiatives at platform scale
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to bridge global teams, enabling alignment, standards, and knowledge sharing across geographies
