About the role
Teradata provides an autonomous knowledge platform that unifies data, knowledge, and business context to deliver AI-driven enterprise intelligence across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid deployments. The database and platform engineering organization is hiring a Principal Architect to lead the architecture, design, and evolution of Teradata's core database platform at enterprise scale. The role focuses on database internals, query optimization, workload management, performance, reliability, and technical strategy across global teams.
What you will do
- Architect at enterprise scale – Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of Teradata core database architectures supporting massive, mission-critical workloads
- Own performance and reliability – Drive query performance tuning, workload management, and system reliability, ensuring high availability and operational excellence across global deployments
- Set technical strategy – Act as the principal database subject matter expert, guiding architectural decisions and shaping long-term platform evolution
- Lead through influence – Partner with engineering, analytics, and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions
- Define what excellence looks like – Consistently deliver high-impact architectural outcomes, raise the engineering bar, and enable innovation across teams
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- 10+ years of experience in database engineering, database architecture, or enterprise data platforms, with a track record of architecting large-scale systems
- Deep expertise in database internals, SQL optimization, and workload management
- Advanced experience with query optimizer behavior and performance tuning in large-scale, distributed environments
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and executive communication skills
- Experience defining and implementing best practices for data governance, data integrity, and database security, including compliance with Indian and global standards
- Proven ability to mentor senior engineers and influence technical leaders, fostering a culture of architectural excellence and continuous improvement
- A proactive mindset for identifying performance and architectural risks and driving optimization initiatives at platform scale
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to bridge global teams, enabling alignment, standards, and knowledge sharing across geographies
