About the role
Google's Network Team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in Google's data centers and metro points of presence globally, from site acquisition and construction through architecture, design, installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning. The team operates the edge network that connects millions of Internet users to Google's services reliably and at scale. As a Network Implementation Engineer, Wireless, the role executes deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide, monitors and repairs network issues, and maintains network documentation and designs.
What you will do
- Build and operate Google's network reliably and at scale.
- Execute deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide.
- Develop creative approaches and collaborate with cross-functional teams to keep operational costs low.
- Monitor the network and repair issues while anticipating needs and escalating issues.
- Own network documentation, update and maintain network designs and plans.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience in fundamental networking technologies and protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, DHCP, IPSec, GRE, Wi-Fi standards, DNS, Radius)
- 2 years of experience with wireless technologies.
- Experience with 802.11 Wi-Fi standards, 802.1X access control and DHCP/IPv6 SLAAC.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Layer 1 optical transmissions systems, layer 3 routing TCP/IP, wireless networking, network design, or operations.
- Experience with the triage of network issues, identification of root causes, and generation of Methods of Procedure (MOP) for network repair.
- Foundational skill set in network automation, scripting (e.g., Python, Go), and standard network operational tools.
