About the role
Google's Network Team operates the company's global network at scale and owns the full life cycle of space, power, and network assets across Google data centers and metro points of presence worldwide, from site acquisition and construction through architecture, design, installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning. As a Network Implementation Engineer, you will be an initial point of execution for deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide, working with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, Field Engineers, and external construction and telecommunications vendors and contractors.
What you will do
- Build and operate Google's network reliably and at scale.
- Execute deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide.
- Develop creative approaches and collaborate with cross-functional teams to keep operational costs low.
- Monitor the network and repair issues while anticipating needs and escalating issues.
- Own network documentation, update and maintain network designs and plans.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience in core networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS), and LAN switching.
- Experience with MPLS VPN, firewalls, data center networking, and virtual extensible LAN (VXLAN).
Preferred qualifications
- Certifications in CCNP, CCIE, JNCIE, or Google's Professional Cloud Network Engineer certification.
- Understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals, including system resource monitoring and shell scripting.
- Excellent coding skills to develop automation solutions for network monitoring and management.
