About the role

Nokia's Optical Network Infrastructure New Product Introduction team drives the design and development of custom mechanical and electromechanical test fixtures, environmental test systems, and specialized tooling that enable R&D, product validation, reliability testing, and manufacturing support for next-generation optical networking products. The team works across the full product development lifecycle, from concept generation and detailed mechanical design to fabrication, assembly, validation, and system deployment. As a Mechanical Design Engineer II, you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to turn technical requirements into robust, reliable, manufacturable solutions.

What you will do

  • Design and develop mechanical/electromechanical test fixtures and tooling to support product validation, qualification, and manufacturing.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and configuration-controlled documentation for test equipment and related hardware.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop reliable, manufacturable test solutions.
  • Partners with technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing vendors throughout design, build, troubleshooting, validation, and implementation to ensure robust hardware solutions.
  • Perform engineering analyses, tolerance studies, and design evaluations while also providing support during assembly, testing, and issue resolution.

What the employer is looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively across engineering teams, technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing partners in a fast-paced environment.
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience in product development, validation, reliability, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with Creo Parametric, Windchill, and Agile PLM systems.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis methods.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and fabrication vendors to drive manufacturable designs.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype assembly, machine shop operations and test fixture construction
