About the role

The PA Value Engineering and Component Engineering Center of Excellence works with global product engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, and ISC teams to drive value engineering, cost reduction, and productivity for PA products. The team focuses on reducing product cost, improving manufacturability, supporting supply continuity, and protecting product quality, reliability, certification, and customer requirements. This Mechanical Design Engineer I role supports VE NPI and sustaining business through value design optimization, alternate source qualification, component standardization, localization, supplier changes, and manufacturing improvement projects across the PA product portfolio.

What you will do

  • Generate new VE/CE ideas from productivity events, design reviews, BOM reviews, supplier inputs, manufacturing feedback, field issues and benchmarking.
  • Check each idea for technical feasibility, cost saving potential, risk, validation needs and implementation effort.
  • Convert approved ideas into productivity or savings projects and drive them from concept to implementation.
  • Deliver savings while maintaining design intent, product performance, quality, safety and certification compliance.
  • Identify and execute Value Engineering and Component Engineering opportunities for PA products.
  • Review product designs, drawings, BOMs and manufacturing processes to find cost, quality, manufacturability and supply continuity improvements.
  • Generate new cost saving ideas through product teardown, benchmarking, supplier discussions, plant inputs and engineering reviews.
  • Evaluate ideas for savings value, technical feasibility, certification impact, quality risk and implementation timeline.
  • Prepare simple business cases for approved ideas and convert them into productivity or savings projects.
  • Lead execution of savings projects from idea stage through design update, validation, qualification, ECO release and implementation.
  • Support alternate material, alternate supplier, localization, part commonization and design optimization projects.
  • Perform engineering assessments to make sure proposed changes meet product performance, reliability, safety and customer requirements.
  • Prepare and review 2D production drawings, 3D CAD models, design calculations, DFMEA, tolerance stack-up, qualification documents, ECN packages and technical reports.
  • Support certification and qualification impact assessments for design changes, including HazLoc products where applicable.
  • Work with sourcing and suppliers to evaluate alternate components, manufacturing processes and cost reduction proposals.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for product, manufacturing and field issues where design changes are needed.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide practical recommendations focused on cost, manufacturability, reliability and quality.
