About the role
The Regulatory Automation and Capability Modernization team, part of Corporate Controllership in Finance at American Express, is responsible for delivering end-to-end automation of the regulatory reporting platform. The Finance Organization acts as a strategic partner supporting company decisions through financial expertise, analytics, and financial integrity. This Reporting Product Owner (Manager) role will translate business requirements into actionable features and user stories, own the product backlog and delivery roadmap, and coordinate with Technology, Data, and Finance stakeholders to design, implement, and migrate regulatory reporting automation solutions into production.
What you will do
- Lead end-to-end execution of regulatory reporting automation initiatives, from feature definition through implementation and production readiness.
- Own the product backlog and delivery roadmap, translating complex business and regulatory requirements into well-defined features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Drive solution design in partnership with Technology, Data Architecture, and Report Owners, ensuring solutions meet business, data, and regulatory reporting needs.
- Prioritize features and enhancements based on regulatory commitments, business value, dependencies, risks, and overall program objectives.
- Coordinate across cross-functional teams (technology, data architects, testing, Finance) driving alignment and resolving cross functional dependencies.
- Monitor execution against milestones and deliverables, proactively identifying risks, issues, and blockers and driving them through resolution.
- Support the testing lifecycle (UAT validation, defect resolution).
- Engage business and technical stakeholders throughout the delivery lifecycle, incorporating feedback, clarifying requirements, and ensuring delivered capabilities meet intended outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement and automation opportunities to reduce manual processes, strengthen controls, and improve the efficiency and scalability of regulatory reporting.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- 5+ years of relevant experience in regulatory reporting, finance, data, or technology-enabled transformation within the financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of liquidity regulatory reporting, particularly FR 2052a, including underlying data requirements, reporting processes, and associated controls.
- Demonstrated experience supporting regulatory reporting transformation, data modernization, or automation initiatives.
- Experience operating as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar delivery-focused role within Agile and/or SAFe environments.
- Proven ability to translate complex business, regulatory, and data requirements into actionable features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional requirements.
- Ability to work effectively across business and technology teams in a delivery-focused role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong documentation and organization skills.
- Delivery mindset with focus on execution and outcomes.
Preferred qualifications
- Exposure to additional US regulatory reports (Basel, FFIEC 009, Y15, etc.).
- SQL or data analysis experience.
- Exposure to AI capabilities in data processing, anomaly detection, or automation of workflows.
