About the role

The AMD Server Software and Solution engineering team's Linux Server Operating Systems group works on core CPU and SOC features for the Linux kernel and related open-source projects targeting the x86-64 architecture and AMD EPYC CPUs. The role focuses on Linux IOMMU performance and scalability, design and development across all phases of software development, and upstreaming features into the mainline Linux Kernel. The engineer collaborates with hardware, firmware, and device driver teams as well as the upstream Linux kernel community.

What you will do

  • Join Upstream Linux IOMMU focused team to enhance and optimize the Linux kernel for AMD EPYC CPUs for Baremetal and Virtualization.
  • Drive features and functionality to our partner technical teams including the Linux kernel community.
  • Support the solutions offered by our partner companies. Review code, build unit tests, and write detailed documentation.
  • Collaborate across the stack with hardware, firmware and device drivers stack teams.
  • Lead collaborative approaches with global teams

What the employer is looking for

  • Bachelors or master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Preferred qualifications

  • 15+ years of Experience in Linux kernel development
  • Deep understanding of operating systems, with emphasis on Linux kernel and proven leader in Linux kernel development and process.
  • Expert insider knowledge of the Linux IOMMU community and Open-Source Software development workflow.
  • Highly skilled in C and x86 assembly programming for operating system kernel & systems development.
  • Understanding of low-level software, such as BIOS/UEFI/firmware is a strong advantage.
  • Exposure to VFIO and KVM/QEMU (including x86-64 virtualization extensions) is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with the GNU toolchain and git are a bonus.
  • Deep understanding of operating systems concepts, data structures, and at least one general-purpose processor architecture (knowledge of x86-64 architecture is a bonus).
  • A keen eye to learn and absorb new concepts is desirable.
  • Excellent Communication and Presentation skills.
