About the role
Honeywell's Airports organization owns a product portfolio that includes Next-Generation Visual Docking Guidance Systems (NGVDGS) and Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL). The role serves as technical authority for this portfolio, defining end-to-end system architecture and leading hardware, firmware, and software platform decisions for safety-critical, cyber-secure airport products. The Lead Systems Architect works with Product Management, Engineering, Operations, certification stakeholders, suppliers, and airport customers to shape technology roadmaps and drive the lifecycle evolution of next-generation airport products.
What you will do
- Translate customer, operational, business, and regulatory needs into system, hardware, firmware, software, sensor, algorithms and interface requirements.
- Own system decomposition, architecture definition, interface management, requirements allocation, and technical traceability.
- Contribute to product strategy and technology roadmaps while driving architecture decisions that address complex customer and operational needs.
- Serve as the technical authority for product development, customer engagements, field escalations, and critical technical decisions.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams across systems, hardware, firmware, software, algorithms, mechanical engineering, and cybersecurity.
- Establish architecture governance and lead system, hardware, and design reviews throughout the product lifecycle.
- Drive verification and validation strategies, technical risk management, DFMEA, FTA, RCA, and reliability engineering activities.
- Lead the resolution of complex product and field issues in collaboration with portfolio, engineering, site, and customer teams.
- Define secure-by-design principles and ensure that cybersecurity is integrated throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Mentor architects and senior engineers while promoting technical excellence, innovation, reuse, and continuous improvement.
- Own technical trade-offs for sensor selection, processing platforms, hardware acceleration, communication interfaces, redundancy, environmental performance, and system integration.
- Define system performance budgets for detection range, docking accuracy, processing latency, availability, reliability, network bandwidth, power, and thermal performance.
- Lead integration across sensing, compute hardware, algorithms, displays, networking, mechanical design, and airport operational systems.
- Lead architectural trade studies, technical risk assessments, supplier technology evaluations, and critical design decisions.
- Ensure that product architectures address applicable airport, safety, environmental, electromagnetic compatibility, cybersecurity, and regional regulatory requirements.

What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Systems, Aerospace, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong proficiency in systems engineering, requirements engineering, architecture methods, and multidisciplinary product development.
- Proven experience architecting complex, mission-critical, or safety-critical products in airports, industrial automation, automotive, aerospace, transportation, or related domains.
- Strong understanding of complex physical systems, hardware platforms, power electronics and control, sensors, industrial communications, real-time systems, embedded systems, safety and cybersecurity.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams across hardware, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, firmware, software and algorithms,
- Demonstrated expertise in system decomposition, interface definition, architecture and design reviews, technical risk management, and project estimation.
- Exposure to customer communication, technical solutioning with customers
- Practical experience with DFMEA, FTA, RCA, reliability analysis, verification, and validation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder-management, and customer-engagement skills.
- Exposure to applicable ICAO, FAA, IEC, EN, ISO, cybersecurity, and regional aviation requirements
- Good to have 15+ years of experience in systems engineering, system development, system architecture and hardware architecture.
