About the role
HDFC Bank is one of India's largest private-sector banks, and this role sits within its engineering organization building Java-based backend platforms. The team works on cloud-native microservices deployed on AWS or GCP, using Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL. The Lead Software Engineer will architect and deliver these backend services, drive CI/CD and code quality practices, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
What you will do
- Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of Java-based applications and microservices.
- Architect and implement scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Design and develop cloud-native applications on AWS or GCP.
- Build and maintain microservices-based architectures with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
- Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment processes.
- Containerize applications using Docker and manage deployments on Kubernetes (K8s).
- Design database schemas, write optimized queries, and manage data using PostgreSQL.
- Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide effective root-cause analysis and resolutions.
- Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, guiding them on technical design and best practices.
- Participate in agile ceremonies, sprint planning, estimation, and technical decision-making.

What the employer is looking for
- Strong hands-on experience in Core Java and Spring Boot.
- Proven experience with AWS and/or GCP cloud platforms.
- Solid experience designing and developing microservices.
- Hands-on expertise in CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including query optimization and database design.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
- Experience leading development teams and managing end-to-end delivery.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, security, performance tuning, and system integration.
- Experience- 11 to 20 years of experience
Preferred qualifications
- Prior experience in the banking, financial services, or fintech domain.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, Kafka, or other messaging systems.
- Knowledge of observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies.
