About the role

The role sits within Mahindra & Mahindra's automotive engineering function and focuses on noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance. It covers automotive systems modelling and simulation for Body in White, cradles, chassis frames, closures, steering, and seating, using tools such as Altair Hypermesh, MSC Nastran, MSC Actran, Altair OptiStruct, LMS/Virtual Lab, and Mode Frontier. The Lead Engineer will execute static and dynamic analysis, develop system-level design validation plans, and implement design solutions that meet manufacturability, cost, and timing constraints.

What you will do

  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of automotive systems modelling, specifically in Body in White (BIW), cradles, chassis frames, closures, steering, and seating NVH.
  • Executing static and dynamic analysis, employing optimisation techniques to effectively modify designs and meet project targets swiftly.
  • Assessing global stiffness, global modes, and dynamic stiffness to ensure robust designs.
  • Conducting model updates to correlate and validate operational NVH performance with simulation outcomes.
  • Incorporating variability considerations into simulations to enhance model accuracy.
  • Evaluating the effect of system-level performance on overall vehicle performance, identifying potential improvements.
  • Creating process documentation for system-level NVH simulations and optimisation.
  • Utilising optimisation tools, such as Mode Frontier, to advance our noise and vibration performance metrics.
  • Developing new design validation plans (DVPs) that preemptively address NVH issues at the system level.
  • Delivering system-level DVPs for multiple projects while adhering to timelines and NVH performance criteria.
  • Your role will also involve implementing design solutions that take into account manufacturability, cost, and time constraints, while consistently achieving system-level NVH performance across diverse projects.

  • Proficiency in full vehicle finite element (FE) model building using Altair Hypermesh, alongside experience in conducting static and dynamic analysis and optimisation using software such as MSC NASTRAN, MSC ACTRAN, and Altair OPTISTRUCT.
  • A proven track record in NVH behaviour analysis with a focus on automotive systems.
  • Hands-on experience with LMS/Virtual Lab for comprehensive simulations.
  • Your background should highlight a strong foundation in product development focused on NVH, showcasing your ability to deliver innovative solutions within the automotive sector.
  • Familiarity with automotive design intricacies and the challenges associated with NVH performance is essential.
  • A postgraduate degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • Strong analytical skills and a detail-oriented mindset capable of identifying and addressing system-level issues proactively.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on innovative design solutions.
  • Interpersonal skills are equally important, as you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive projects to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills combined with the ability to think critically under pressure.
  • A commitment to continual learning and professional development in the ever-evolving field of automotive engineering.
