About the role
Barclays Global Technology designs, develops and improves software that provides business, platform and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues. The team works with Java, microservices, RESTful APIs, Linux and Windows Server, CI/CD and cloud platforms. This Vice President role leads development of scalable, secure and well-tested software, collaborates with product and engineering stakeholders, and drives simplification and technology excellence.
What you will do
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Proficiency in Java programming language.
- Expertise in developing and optimizing Java-based applications.
- Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful API development.
- Experience designing scalable backend applications in Java.
- Proficiency in both Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
- Familiarity with the complete software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
- Minimum Qualification – bachelor’s degree.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab pipelines and TeamCity.
- Proven ability to redesign applications and drive simplification efforts.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
