About the role
IBM Research India and IBM Software Innovation Lab run summer internship programs that give students from leading technical universities industry experience on current lab projects, working alongside mentors. Research areas span agentic AI, foundation models and large language models, AI for IT automation, the intersection of data and AI, and quantum algorithms demonstrated on IBM Quantum hardware. Interns contribute to research and development projects grounded in real-world datasets and enterprise applications during a summer internship of up to three months.
What you will do
- During internship students work on current projects happening in the lab, they solve problems with the help of their mentors.
- We are looking for a talented and highly motivated scientist / engineer to contribute to our research and development efforts across multiple frontiers of AI. The candidate will work on innovation projects that are grounded in real-world datasets, environments and problems while also pushing the state of the are in agentic AI technology with a specific focus on enterprise applications. Areas of research include AI for IT automation, intersection of data and AI, agentic middleware and models, embedding and AI-based retrieval, time series foundation models, multi-modal foundation models and AI for software engineering.
- The candidate will work on one or more research areas: building and scaling large language models, agentic systems that work with small language models, auto evolution of agents including testing and debugging of agents, software stack for AI Accelerator cards, intersection of data and AI, and programmable language models.
- The Quantum Algorithm Engineering team collaborates with partners to produce state-of-art demonstrations on IBM Quantum hardware.
- The internship will be conducted between May and August 2027, for a maximum duration of 3 months.
