About the role

Lauritz Knudsen Electrical and Automation, a unit of Schneider Electric India, is a 70-year-old electrical and automation brand offering low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, automation solutions, software, and services. This GM role will spearhead the creation and implementation of a company-wide technical competency framework to upskill engineering, R&D, manufacturing, and field service teams in Low Voltage switchgear products and modern manufacturing processes such as IoT and automation. The goal is to build a high-performance culture, reduce R&D-to-production transfer time, improve quality, and standardize technical processes across all plants in India.

What you will do

  • Competency Mapping: Define role-based technical competencies for engineering, production, quality, and R&D roles (e.g., design engineers, testing technicians, assembly line workers).
  • Technical Roadmap: Develop a multi-year technical skill development strategy aligned with the company’s product roadmap, focusing on IEC standards, 61439 panel solutions, and digital switchgear technologies.
  • Knowledge Management: Create a structured repository for technical knowledge, standardizing design practices, and ensuring "lessons learned" are implemented across projects.
  • Curriculum Development: Design, curate, and implement technical training modules for LV Switchgear design, manufacturing, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on Training: Lead practical, hands-on sessions for technicians on switchgear assembly, testing protocols, and safety procedures.
  • Modern Training Methods: Implement hybrid learning solutions, including e-learning platforms, virtual reality (VR) simulations for complex assembly, and classroom workshops.
  • Onboarding: Develop a rigorous technical induction program for new engineering and production hires.
  • Location Coordination: Coordinate training across different plants and R&D centres in India to ensure consistency and standardize operating procedures.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) Liaison: Work closely with R&D, QA, Manufacturing, and Engineering heads to ensure training content is up to date with new product introductions and engineering changes.
  • External Training: Collaborate with external industry experts, technical institutes, and consultants for specialized training.
  • TNA (Training Needs Analysis): Conduct individual and team skills gap analyses regularly.
  • ROI/Impact Measurement: Evaluate training effectiveness through metrics, such as reduced rework, faster troubleshooting, and improved productivity in manufacturing.
  • Certification: Implement certification programs to recognize technical expertise within the organization.
  • Percentage of employees certified under the technical competency framework.
  • Reduction in manufacturing rework or quality issues attributed to skill gaps.
  • Reduction in time-to-market for new products (R&D to production training efficiency).
  • Training hours per employee (technical).
  • Adherence to the Annual Training Calendar.
