About the role
Barclays Global Technology team builds and improves software capabilities for the bank. This Engineering Manager – VP role in Pune leads software design and delivery using Java, React, and microservices, with responsibility for scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions. The position also involves stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
What you will do
- You will also manage stakeholder relationships, communicate complex ideas effectively, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Expertise in developing and optimizing Java-based applications
- Strong hands‑on experience with React, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3.
- Experience with state management (Redux / Context API).
- Integration with REST APIs and handling complex UI workflows.
- Understanding of frontend performance, accessibility, and responsive design.
- Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful API development
- Experience designing scalable backend applications in Java
- Proficiency in both Linux and Windows Server operating systems
- Familiarity with the complete software development lifecycle and agile methodologies
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab pipelines and TeamCity
- Proven ability to redesign applications and drive simplification efforts
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
