About the role
Airbnb's CRM Engineering team builds world-class tools that drive growth and foster meaningful relationships between Airbnb and its community, spanning the Growth Platform, Policy Platform, Community Platform, Agent Tools and Aircover Claims Platform. The team is building an AI-driven growth platform that leverages AI-driven intelligence to generate sales insights and power Airbnb's supply expansion by supporting and attracting hosts. This Engineering Manager role leads and grows a high-performing engineering team, partners closely with product, data science, design and business teams to define long-term technical vision, strategy and roadmap, and drives delivery of scalable, reliable, AI-powered systems.
What you will do
- Technical Leadership: Define and execute the technical strategy for trust and safety initiatives, ensuring alignment with Airbnb's long-term goals.
- Team Management: Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team. Foster a culture of innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and partner engineering teams to develop effective, scalable solutions.
- Project Oversight: Lead end-to-end project execution, ensuring high-quality delivery across the software development lifecycle.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Provide clear communication of project status, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and partners.
- Operational Excellence: Champion best practices for reliability, scalability, and incident response. Maintain operational readiness for critical systems.
- Industry Awareness: Stay current on trends in Trust & Safety, and drive adoption of best practices and innovations within the team.
- Global Alignment: Work with global counterparts to ensure the India team's initiatives are aligned with broader Trust & Safety goals.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Overall 10+ years of industry experience, including 2–5+ years in engineering management.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale, secure, and reliable systems.
- Strong experience in leading technical strategy and building scalable engineering, data, or machine learning systems.
- Expertise in leading AI/ML teams and delivering AI-powered solutions is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in at least one major language (e.g., Java, Python, Go, Ruby).
- Demonstrated ability to hire and retain top-tier engineering talent.
- Excellent communicator - capable of bridging technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience setting multi-year strategies and aligning diverse stakeholders.
- Background working in fast-paced, agile environments with cross-functional teams.
- Passion for trust, safety, and driving positive social impact.
- Strong commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within teams.
