About the role
The Commerce team builds the experiences behind Google's shopping journey, from product inspiration to a simple and secure checkout, and partners with the commerce ecosystem — from large retailers to small local merchants — to give them the tools, technology, and scale to thrive. This role sits with the GPay Merchant Platform organization, which operates in a rapidly growing fintech ecosystem across several global markets. As an Engineering Manager, you will hire and lead engineering teams, partner with cross-functional Engineering and Product teams, define and execute the engineering strategy and roadmap, and deliver end-to-end merchant-facing products.
What you will do
- Build and lead an engineering team in a fast-paced environment and work together with other Engineering and Product teams to build features from the ground-up for a rapidly growing fintech ecosystem in some of the most vibrant markets of the world.
- Hire, build, and lead team(s) of high-calibre Engineers focused on building end to end horizontal and vertical products.
- Partner and Collaborate with cross functional teams and define the engineering strategy and roadmap.
- Execute on the strategies and roadmap and deliver high-impact solutions for GPay Merchants and beyond.
- Navigate high ambiguity problems. Come up with innovative ideas, challenge assumptions, and deliver the best solutions for our merchants.
Skills used in this role
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Experience with systems engineering practices, including incident response, monitoring, service-level objectives, and change management.
