About the role
The Qualcomm Customer Engineering Group works closely with automotive partners and customers from concept through commercialization across the Snapdragon Automotive platform portfolio, supporting embedded software architecture, feature bring-up, platform integration, customization, validation, and debugging. This Staff-level Software Applications Engineering role focuses on BSP and HLOS stability across QNX (HQX) and HGY (Gunyah hypervisor with Linux/Android GVM) stacks for IVI, ADAS, and FLEX segments. The engineer will own triage and root-cause resolution of system stability issues, serve as a stability subject matter expert for global OEM and Tier-1 customers, and drive stability tooling, automation, and mentoring across CE, Dev/Platform SW, and customer teams.
What you will do
- Lead triage and root-cause analysis of system stability issues (crashes, hangs, watchdog resets, panics, SOC resets) across QNX (HQX) and HGY (Gunyah) platforms for automotive customers.
- Debug kernel crashes, process crashes, resource-manager failures, and OS-level hangs on QNX IVI, ADAS, and FLEX variants.
- Analyze full ramdumps, minidumps, and guest-dumps (QNX/Android/Linux GVM) using Crashscope, QXDM, QDSS traces, and other Qualcomm diagnostic toolchains.
- Identify, isolate, and drive resolution of stability regressions across chipset generations (Gen3, Gen4, Gen4.5, Gen5) on both HQX and HGY stacks.
- Own stability-related Change Requests (CRs) end-to-end — from initial triage through root-cause analysis, patch validation, and integration into customer branches.
- Collaborate with Dev/PLT teams to diagnose Linux kernel panics, Android GVM crashes, and Gunyah hypervisor-level faults within the HGY multi-OS virtualized stack.
- Investigate stability failures related to HLOS system services, BSP drivers, inter-VM communication (GLINK, IPCC, SMP2P), and framework-level issues.
- Drive MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) improvements for customer SPs targeting ADAS/IVI production SOP milestones.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for stability-related issues from automotive OEM and Tier-1 customers across regions.
- Analyze and triage stability CRs submitted via customer issue tracking systems; provide timely, technically accurate responses and resolution paths.
- Support Automotive RFI (AutoRFI) assessments for stability-related NRE scoping, communicating technical complexity and resource requirements.
- Engage with customers during bring-up, pre-CS, and post-CS phases to proactively identify and mitigate stability risks.
- Provide on-site customer support as required during critical program milestones.
- Collaborate with NA, EU, and India CE teams to ensure 24/7 global follow-the-sun stability support.
- Drive development and validation of stability test automation frameworks for HGY and QNX platforms (e.g., Axiom-based stability pools, CI/CD integration).
- Enable and validate security hardening passes that impact stability: Syzcaller, KASAN, UBSAN, KTSAN, CFI, PTRAUTH on HGY Linux-based stacks.
- Develop and maintain automated ramdump/minidump parsers and triage tools to reduce mean time to diagnosis.
- Partner with APT (Automated Platform Test) teams to define test cases targeting top stability hitters across program milestones.
- Create and maintain debug guides, triage runbooks, and reusable diagnostic artifacts for stability issues across QNX and HGY platforms.
- Track and analyze stability trends across program stages (Bringup → ES → L0–L4 → FC → CS) and communicate risk to program and customer teams.
- Serve as the stability SME for the BDC CE BSP team, providing architectural guidance on platform stability design and debugging strategy.
- Lead cross-functional stability reviews with Dev, APT, PDT, and CE teams; drive root-cause analysis (RCA) delivery to enable new test case generation.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on system stability concepts, QNX/HGY platform architecture, debugging methodology, and customer engagement.
- Influence feature design and architecture decisions to proactively prevent system instability in future Snapdragon Automotive SPs.
- Scale technical knowledge through reusable documentation, training materials, and knowledge-base contributions (e.g., Confluence, CE KnowledgeBase).
