About the role
Barclays Merchant Services domain ensures the resilience, scalability, and reliability of critical payment systems that power merchant transactions. The Data Engineer role focuses on building and maintaining data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes, while driving performance engineering and system stability. The role involves collaborating with business analysts, solution architects, and engineering teams to deliver high-performing, data-driven solutions using AI, automation, and cloud technologies.
What you will do
- To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure.
- Build and maintenance of data architectures pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
- Design and implementation of data warehoused and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
- Development of processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
- Collaboration with data scientist to build and deploy machine learning models.

- Experience in solution design and AI implementation, translating business requirements into scalable data and technology solutions using AI, automation and cloud technologies.
- Strong understanding of Data Product operating models and modern data strategies to enable scalable, trusted, and reusable data assets.
- Strong understanding of data architecture and end-to-end data solution design.
- Experience in data analytics and reporting, transforming complex datasets into actionable insights to support business decision-making.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills across business and technology teams.
- Experience in developing data visualisations and dashboards using Power BI and Tableau.
- Experience in technical to business documentations and translations.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience using JIRA.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with SQL and data engineering platforms, enabling effective collaboration with technical teams and informed decision-making on data solutions.
- Experience in project or product management across the full lifecycle, including requirements gathering, prioritisation, planning, delivery and value realisation.
- Knowledge of Teradata and data warehouse technologies.
- Experience within Financial Services or a consulting environment, with an understanding of complex stakeholder landscapes, regulatory requirements and change delivery.
