About the role

Barclays' infrastructure engineering function builds and maintains platforms and products that support applications and data systems, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, secure and automated. This role sits within that function focused on the Microsoft 365 and Power Platform ecosystem, building and deploying Copilot agents, Microsoft Graph integrations and Entra ID authentication flows. The engineer will contribute to design and architecture, secure delivery, and cross-functional work with product managers and architects in a regulated financial services environment in Pune.

What you will do

  • Build Engineering: Development, delivery, and maintenance of high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Including the identification of the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.
  • Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use of data to drive down mean time to resolution.
  • Automation: Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.
  • Security: Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access.
  • Teamwork: Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data driven approach.
  • Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

Skills used in this role

What the employer is looking for

  • Hands-on experience across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, with a working understanding of tenant architecture, service interdependencies, licensing and admin controls, and practical knowledge of how Microsoft 365 Copilot grounds on tenant data through Microsoft Graph and the semantic index.
  • Building and deploying Copilot agents — declarative agents covering the manifest and agent definition, instructions, knowledge sources, API plugin actions with OpenAPI specifications, packaging and the M365 admin approval process — together with an informed view of when a custom engine agent is the right choice.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID: users, groups and licensing, app registrations, enterprise applications and service principals, delegated versus application permissions and admin consent, and conditional access concepts.
  • A sound practical grasp of authentication and token exchange — OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect flows, access, refresh and ID tokens, scopes and claims, token lifetime and validation, the on-behalf-of flow, and single sign-on within Teams and Copilot agent scenarios.
  • Practical experience with the Microsoft Graph API, including the permissions model, authenticating in code, pagination, throttling and error handling.
  • Strong competence in at least one development language such as C#, Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, with REST and JSON fluency, PowerShell for administration, and sound engineering discipline across source control, code review, testing and secure coding.
  • Proven delivery within an Agile team — backlog refinement, estimation, sprint commitment, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives, using Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Ability to contribute to design and architecture: producing and reviewing high- and low-level designs and authentication and integration flow diagrams, and assessing non-functional requirements such as availability, resilience and security.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the confidence to engage stakeholders outside the immediate team and explain technical detail to a non-technical audience.

Preferred qualifications

  • Building and publishing agents in Copilot Studio — topics, generative orchestration, knowledge sources, actions, channel publishing and solution management.
  • Exposure to Copilot Cowork or other agentic, task-based working patterns, including the governance and data-handling considerations around them.
  • Building Microsoft Graph connectors to bring external content into the Copilot grounding surface, and working with change notifications and webhooks.
  • Teams app development using the Teams Toolkit, Adaptive Cards or the Bot Framework.
  • Azure fundamentals and hosting experience — App Service, Functions, API Management and Key Vault — along with Azure OpenAI or Azure AI Foundry exposure.
  • Retrieval-augmented generation concepts, prompt engineering, evaluation and responsible AI practice.
  • Infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipeline experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Power Platform capability across Power Apps, Power Automate, custom connectors and Dataverse.
  • Familiarity with M365 guardrails and compliance controls, including data loss prevention, retention and sensitivity labelling, external and guest access, and app consent policy.
  • Microsoft certifications such as SC-300, MS-700, AI-102, PL-200, PL-400, AZ-104 or AZ-204.
  • Experience in financial services or another regulated industry.

Benefits and support

  • Compensation and benefits are detailed in the job posting
