About the role

Siemens Smart Infrastructure connects energy systems, buildings, and industries with cloud-based digital offerings and services. The Cloud Architect – IoT & Digitalization role defines and drives cloud architecture for next-generation digital products and IoT solutions, working with product owners, software architects, developers, and cybersecurity experts. The architect will influence architecture from edge to cloud, establish reusable technology patterns, and enable engineering teams to build secure, scalable, and maintainable digital solutions.

What you will do

  • Define and drive end-to-end cloud architecture for IoT and digital applications.
  • Design scalable, resilient, secure and highly available cloud-native solutions.
  • Establish cloud architecture principles, reusable design patterns, standards and technology guidelines.
  • Translate business and product requirements into technical architecture and solution concepts.
  • Architect solutions based on microservices, containers, Kubernetes, serverless technologies and managed cloud services.
  • Define integration concepts using REST APIs, API gateways, event-driven architecture and messaging technologies.
  • Design cloud infrastructure covering networking, compute, storage, databases and platform services.
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated cloud provisioning approaches.
  • Embed security-by-design principles covering identity, authentication, authorization, encryption and secure communication.
  • Define architectural approaches for high availability, scalability, disaster recovery and performance.
  • Enable DevOps/DevSecOps practices, automated CI/CD and cloud-native deployments.
  • Define observability concepts covering system monitoring, logging, metrics and alerting.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate cloud technologies, platforms, frameworks and tools.
  • Lead architecture and design reviews and support teams in resolving complex technical issues.
  • Mentor engineering teams and promote cloud-native architecture and engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with globally distributed R&D teams and other stakeholders on technology and product roadmaps.

What the employer is looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • Strong professional experience in software engineering, cloud technologies and solution architecture.
  • Proven experience designing scalable, secure and highly available cloud applications.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on architectural experience with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
  • Strong understanding of microservices, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with serverless architecture and managed cloud services.
  • Experience designing REST APIs, API management and event-driven architectures.
  • Good understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud networking, security and identity/access management.
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform or comparable technologies.
  • Understanding of observability, monitoring and logging concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture principles, system design and design patterns.
  • Strong analytical, debugging and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to technically lead, influence and mentor engineering teams.
