About the role
Applied Materials is a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions underpinning semiconductor chips and advanced displays, and this role joins the APEX team partnering with executives, operational leaders, Finance, and IT across multiple product lines. The work combines business intelligence, market intelligence, strategic analysis, and data-driven decision support. The analyst will build market sizing and competitive intelligence models, develop Excel-based financial and operational models, and translate market, customer, and competitive insights into strategic recommendations for business and product leaders.
What you will do
- Own the problem. Scope analytics and business intelligence initiatives supporting strategic, operational, market, and quality programs. Frame the question, develop hypotheses, gather data, design the analysis, and carry recommendations through to decision-making.
- Be the day-to-day partner to the business. Work closely with Business Management, GPMs, and BU leaders to understand business priorities, market opportunities, customer requirements, and competitive dynamics. Translate these needs into analytical frameworks and actionable insights.
- Drive market and competitive intelligence. Develop market sizing, TAM/SAM/SOM models, segment analyses, technology landscape assessments, competitive benchmarking, and industry trend reports to support business strategy and investment decisions.
- Research beyond the data. Gather and synthesize information from customer interactions, MRS documents, analyst reports, industry publications, earnings releases, market databases, and internal sources to build fact-based perspectives on markets and competitors.
- Turn analysis into language leaders act on. Interpret results in business, financial, and strategic terms for management and executives, tailoring messages appropriately for different audiences.
- Build practical business models. Develop Excel-based financial, market, and operational models that support scenario planning, opportunity assessment, prioritization, and executive decision making.
- Set the standard for data quality and insight generation. Ensure analytical rigor, data integrity, validation, and transparency of assumptions in all work products.
- Build the organization's shared knowledge base. Maintain reusable models, templates, market intelligence repositories, competitive assessments, and analytical frameworks that can be leveraged across teams.
Skills used in this role
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in a quantitative, engineering, or business discipline preferred. Requirements may vary by region and function.
- Typically 12–18 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or consulting, including demonstrable time owning a workstream end to end.
- Ability to break down an ambiguous business problem through structured, quantitative reasoning, and to make decisions from data, facts, and logic rather than precedent.
- Demonstrated experience developing market sizing (TAM/SAM/SOM), business cases, competitive assessments, industry analyses, and strategic recommendations.
- Strong quantitative and financial modeling skills, including advanced Excel capabilities and the ability to develop practical, assumption-driven business models.
- Proven ability to conduct independent research and synthesize information from multiple sources into concise executive-level insights.
- Intellectual curiosity and a proactive mindset, with a track record of identifying opportunities, risks, and insights without waiting for direction.
- Strong business acumen and ability to connect market dynamics, customer requirements, competitive positioning, and financial outcomes.
- Experience working with Product Management, General/Product Managers, Strategy, Marketing, or Business Management teams is highly desirable.
- Semiconductor, high-technology, or high-volume manufacturing exposure is an advantage.
